Part-time, split shift, approximately 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm, Monday thru Friday.

This is a support position in Way Station's program requiring an ability to interact effectively with adults with serious mental illness while transporting them safely to and from program activities. This is an hourly position. The Driver is supervised by the Day Program Manager or designee, or Program Supervisor.

Position Requirements: Education and Experience

  • Valid full driver's license (cannot be provisional status).
  • Clean and safe driving record; must be able to pass state and federal background check.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current DOT certification.
  • Two years positively referenced relevant work experience.


  • Provide transportation to members.
  • Maintain current, accurate and complete records regarding operation and maintenance of the vans.
  • Routinely completes and documents circle checks on all WSI vehicles.
  • Immediately address and document any problems related to maintenance or operation of any WSI vehicle.
  • Leave vehicles in readiness for next run, including: maintaining gas tank at least at half level; repairing or assuring repair of any malfunctions; maintaining cleanliness of interior.
  • Comply with all laws, regulations and orders of government authorities which apply to the operations of motor vehicles
  • Provide and document routine and non-routine inspections and maintenance of all WS vehicles.
  • Communicate salient member activity to appropriate rehabilitation staff and document as appropriate.
  • Perform assigned department duties during non-driving time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements: Knowledge Ability and Skills

  • Interest in working with persons with serious mental illness.
  • Willingness to learn and apply concepts of psychosocial rehabilitation as they relate to interaction with members.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Communication skill between team members is vital.
  • Willingness and ability to examine one's own behavior, feelings, and attitudes to facilitate a productive relationship with consumers, providers, administrators, and citizens throughout the county.
  • Ability to listen, identify and report to other appropriate staff issues which may require the services of others.
  • Willingness to follow all safety policies and procedures regarding the operation and maintenance of the vans.
  • Minimal basic computer skills and willingness to learn.
